BROCKTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Brockton High School plans to host its first baseball game of the season at Campanelli Stadium after rainy weather made the field unusable.
Brockton Public Schools said the season was halted for a month because the field was drenched with water, and that the “facilities staff are doing what they can to mitigate water collection issues.”
The stadium is owned by the city of Brockton, but Brockton High baseball uses it for their home games. The stadium is also used by the Brockton Rox, whose season is set to begin next month under new ownership.
“There’s been new dirt and soil that’s been added to the infield to help with the drainage and those types of things as we’re dealing with rain,” Brockton Rox Communications Director Alex Tainsh said.
Tainsh also said they’ve been planting more grass, which is already starting to grow. There are also plans to add more seed in the fall.
The Rox, the city, and the school district are planning to work on a permanent fix.
“Our facilities department has done the best they can with the resources and time frame they're able to work with, but ultimately, we look forward to working with the city and the Rox in hopes of finding a way to be more proactive in developing a turf management plan for next spring and beyond,” the school district said.
