BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Whale Jam returns to Boston to help protect the endangered North Atlantic right whales.
Nantucket Crisps Co-founder Hayden Arnot said they have a stacked lineup for this year’s Whale Jam at the MGM Music Hall at Fenway on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. O.A.R., The Dip, The Brook & The Bluff will all be performing and actor Jason Biggs is set to host.
Arnot said the show will raise money for the Whale & Dolphin Conservation (WDC), which works to protect the dwindling population of right whales. According to the WDC, there are currently fewer than 360 right whales in the wild and only 70 of them are reproductive females. While donating can go a long way, Arnot said Whale Jam is also about bringing more awareness to the cause.
“I wanted to do more, so I figured music advocacy was a huge way to combine the two. Using music as a platform to bring in fans to come for the music and stay for the cause,” said Arnot.
O.A.R. lead singer and guitarist Marc Roberge has performed at all of the Whale Jams in Boston, but this is the first time the whole band will be with them. Arnot said Roberge has a real passion for the cause and has been an integral part of Whale Jam's growth.
“If you’re going to sign up to do a non-profit show or something along those lines, you’re probably going to be a pretty generous, awesome, fun, caring person,” said Arnot. “It’s been really unique to have so many great friends who have come out of this over the years.”
Nantucket Crisps was created just over three years ago, but has continued to expand locally and across the U.S. Each of the flavors is inspired by places around the island, like Madaket Sweet Onion and Hummock Hot Honey.
“I think one of the most important things for me, and I think you can kind of tell, this is not just a bag of chips,” said Arnot. “This is a company that has so much more depth to it in terms of what we do, in terms of our nonprofit component and mission, [and] in terms of the story we’re trying to tell.”
Arnot said there will be tons of free Nantucket Crisps for the concert goers. Tickets are still available for Tuesday night’s show.
