TAUNTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Two men were not injured after a helicopter made a hard landing and crashed on its side at the Taunton Municipal Airport Tuesday.
Authorities say that emergency crews from Taunton Police and Fire responded to the airport around 12:40 p.m. for a report of a helicopter that had crashed during takeoff.
The pilot and passenger, both adult men, had come from New Bedford and landed in Taunton as part of a training program officials say.
The instructor was piloting the Robinson R44 helicopter and was planning to return to New Bedford at the time of the crash.
Both were able to get themselves out crashed aircraft.
There was a small fuel spill and emergency crews were able to contain and turn off the fuel to prevent further spillage.
The Federal Aviation Administration said that it is investigating.
