BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Last week, we told you about Patriots defensive end Trey Flowers' trip with the Lombardi Trophy to a Springfield Thunderbirds game earlier this month.
“I just wanna say thanks for everybody in the New England area showing the Patriots support, we couldn’t have did it without y’all,” Flowers told the crowd. “This is number six—we want seven!”
Well, the Pats still want a seventh title, but turns out Flowers wanted the money just a bit more after winning his second championship.
Like receiver Danny Amendola, Flowers joined former Patriots staffers Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia in Detroit.
Lions gave the versatile edge-rusher a 5-year pact reportedly worth between $16-17 million per.
Flowers spent four seasons in New England and led the team in sacks the last three after essentially red-shirting as a rookie.
Flowers said goodbye to Pats nation on Instagram.
"For the memories, for the lessons, for the relationships..for the opportunity..I thank you!!" he wrote.
This move comes on the heels of trading for Michael Bennett, and Deatrich Wise Junior could be poised for an expanded role along the d-line.
Patriots also lost offensive lineman Trent Brown to the Raiders, courtesy of a four-year, $66 million deal. It's the second straight offseason Tom Brady's watched his starting left tackle leave, after Nate Solder cashed in with the Giants a year ago.
