QUINCY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) —  Finding a place to stay on the Massachusetts coast is typically full of competition on Independence Day weekend, but it doesn't seem to be the case this year.

With the start of the holiday weekend just days away, popular renting websites like Airbnb are still showing rentals available for the Fourth of July.

WBZ's Jim MacKay said it is not just high-priced locations that are still available. Some available rentals on the water in Cape Cod are still going for $100 a night.

MacKay met several travelers who said this year they had a much easier time finding a place to stay than in the past.

Leslie of Arizona said she visits Wollaston Beach each year for the holiday weekend. When she went online to book her usual place to stay in Quincy, she found the prices were less expensive than usual.

"This is a great place to be when it's 115 degrees back home," Leslie told WBZ's Jim MacKay.

The trend shows more people are traveling out of Massachusetts than coming to the Bay State this Independence Day weekend.
