METHUEN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The MSPCA at Nevins Farm is waiving fees this weekend to help some pigs find forever homes.

The pig adoptathon will be held on Saturday, June 3, and Sunday, June 4 after several pigs were surrendered to the MSPCA from a home in Plainfield.

“The owner had more animals than they were able to care for, so they surrendered these pigs to us,” said Rachel Navarro, equine and farm animal assistant manager at Nevins Farm. “Because of their previous situation, the pigs are a little shy, but we’ve been working to socialize them over the last few weeks.”

Adopting a pig typically costs up to $400. By waiving the fee the MSPCA said they hope the money that would have been spent on fees can now go to caring for the pet instead.

The MSPCA is looking to find homes for seven pigs at this weekend's adoptathon. To learn more or register for the event click here. Registration is required to attend.

“Many don’t know this, but pigs are great companions for the right people,” said Navarro. “They’re smart, inquisitive and friendly. They even enjoy belly rubs and snuggles, and can form life-long bonds with humans and other pigs.”
