BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The holiday season can bring out mixed emotions of joy and loneliness. Between preparing a holiday meal, hosting friends and family, and the expense of gift-giving, the holiday season can be stressful.

One Dorchester resident believes she has figured out the key to a happy holiday... gratitude.

Sabrina of Dorchester said she starts her day with a reminder to be thankful. She tries to look at all the things she is grateful for in life instead of focusing on the negatives.

"There are a lot of benefits to feeling thankful," Sabrina told WBZ's Jim MacKay. "It helps you to feel optimistic, it helps you to feel hopeful."

She wakes up every morning and starts her day with a prayer.

"It really helped me not to be stressed about the holidays, I do things to celebrate," Sabrina said.

While focusing on being positive is easier said than done, Sabrina believes staying humble and remembering the good in life is nature's medicine for staying happy.
