BOSTON (WBZ-AM) — An Everett Uber driver has been charged with raping a female passenger.

Michael Squadrito is accused of raping a women who had hailed a ride in downtown Boston early Tuesday. Police say Squadrito was supposed to take the woman home, but instead he drove to a spot in Dorchester, where he sexually assaulted the victim.

Squadrito faces arraignment in Dorchester District Court on a rape charge.

Three years ago, the 40-year-old was arrested by Chelsea Police in an undercover operation. He was charged with soliciting sex for a fee. In that sting, undercover officers were deployed to the downtown area, posing as prostitutes.

“What’s been reported is deeply disturbing and our thoughts are with the rider during this difficult time. The driver’s access to the app has been removed and we will continue to cooperate with law enforcement," Uber said in a statement.
