BROOKLINE (WBZNewsRadio) - The Brookline Police Department's Hate Crimes Unit is investigating after Black Lives Matter and Progress Pride flags were vandalized outside the Coolidge Corner branch of the Brookline Public Library.

The flags were covered with stickers from Warhammer 40k, a tabletop game featuring a battlefield and miniature figures. Imagery from the game has recently been adopted by specific groups to represent hate speech. The stickers included the words "HERESY" and the image of two-headed imperial eagle.

The discovery of the defaced flags was made Tuesday morning, police said most likely, the vandalism took place on the night of Dec. 3, into the morning of Dec. 4. They're now asking anyone who may have seen anything or anyone with home-security cameras in the area to aid in their investigation.

Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact Brookline police 617-730-2244
