AVON (WBZNewsRadio) - A man from Randolph has died after a crash involving a sedan and a tractor-trailer on Route 24 in Avon, the driver of the tractor-trailer is recovering in the hospital with minor injuries.

State Police responded to the crash just before 2:30 a.m. and said their preliminary investigation shows a Toyota Camry was traveling in the middle lane, when it rear-ended a Freightliner. The impact caused the Camry to crash into the median and catch fire, while the tractor-trailer went to the right shoulder, slamming into the guardrail.

The driver of the sedan, Richard Maurice, was pulled from the car because it was consumed by the flames. First responders on scene attempted life-saving measures to save the 30 year old on scene. He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he died.

Officials closed all three southbound lanes of Rt. 24 for about three hours, the road was back open and traffic flowing by 6 a.m. Saturday morning.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.
