ROCHESTER, N.H. (WBZNewsRadio) - It's been quite the wild week for Rochester's Gonic School in New Hampshire, as students took part in the school's first ever Pet Parade.

Third-graders brought all kinds of pets to show off including dogs, cats, guinea pigs, and even a miniature horse. There were also appearances by Rochester Police K-9 Ripley and the Rochester Fire Department mascot, Marshall.

Every single one of the 21 cars in the parade was decorated with informative posters about their animal passengers.

Monday's parade was a long time coming, as students worked tirelessly to convince Principal Greg Brown to let them bring their furry friends to school. The group of third-graders wrote compelling essays so to why it was a good idea. Principal Brown decided while the essays were entertaining, he challenged students to argue their reasoning on stage, in a debate-style presentation.

"The students did an excellent job writing and presenting persuasively, and the pet parade was a great event for our school community," Brown said. "I want to thank everyone who volunteered to take part, and I'm looking forward to seeing what idea our students come up with next."
