WESTBOROUGH, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) - The town of Westborough is out with a warning, after a sewage overflow potentially contaminated Jackstraw Brook.

In a statement from Westborough Public Health Director Jennifer Sullivan and Emergency Management Director Patrick Purcell, they advise residents to avoid the brook, including contact with water and fishing.

Officials were first informed about the overflow on Tuesday, June 14. They responded to the scene and stopped over the overflow and began an investigation into where the overflow may have come from.

The preliminary investigation found the overflow was coming from an easement across 7 Garfield Drive and had been doing so for two weeks. Since June 1, an estimated 95,000 gallons of sewage made it's way into the brook.

Thankfully Jackstraw Brook is not a source of drinking water for the community.
