Blue Line Evacuated Due To Power Problems

BOSTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Many riders were forced to evacuate a Blue Line train Wednesday morning due to a power outage.

"The Blue Line is experiencing power issues between Aquarium and Bowdoin Stations on the inbound track," MBTA spokesperson Joe Pesaturo told WBZ NewsRadio. "Three trains were in this stretch of track at the time."

One of the trains was already at the Aquarium station platform, and another stuck in the tunnel between Maverick and Aquarium was moved backwards to the Maverick Station platform where passengers were able to exit.

"The third train was just outside of Government Center," Pesaturo said. "About 200 passengers safely exited this train."

Bus service replaced trains between Maverick and Goverment Center as crews repaired the damage. Power was restored and service resumed at approximately 9:30 a.m.

The cause of the outage is still under investigation.
