Boston's First Coronavirus Testing Site Opens At Suffolk Downs

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Tents are set up in the parking lot at at Suffolk Downs Race Track in East Boston, which is now the city's first coronavirus testing site.

The drive-thru testing location is being designated to the city's first responders. It will only be available by appointment to qualified EMT's, firefighters, and police officers who are working on the frontlines against the COVID-19 pandemic.

At a press conference on Friday at City Hall, Mayor Marty Walsh said the Suffolk Downs testing site will act as a pilot program.

"First responders will be screened to make sure they meet the state criteria for testing," Walsh said. "This is an important step to keeping our first responders safe and healthy."

The site is being led by the Boston Public Health Commission and the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center.
