BROCKTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Latarsha Sanders, the Brockton mother found guilty of murdering her two sons, received two mandatory life sentences without parole Wednesday at Plymouth Superior Court.

The sentencing came one day after a jury convicted Sanders of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of witness intimidation following a nine-day trial.

On Feb. 5, 2018, police found Edson Brito, 8, and his younger brother La'son Brito, 5, stabbed to death in their Prospect Street home in Brockton. Police later arrested Sanders, who was charged with their murders.

Prosecutors said the boys were stabbed around 100 times between the two of them.

The Boston Globe reported one month after the killings that Sanders had confessed to stabbing the boys. According to a police report, Sanders initially blamed the killings on other people before claiming responsibility.

The Globe also reported in 2018 that Sanders' mother told police that her daughter had become "obsessed with the Illuminati and ritual sacrifices." She believed her daughter was mentally ill, but refused to seek treatment.

The jury deliberated for four hours before reaching a guilty verdict.
