David Ortiz Shooting: 9 Suspects Indicted Friday

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Nine suspects in the Dominican Republic have been indicted in connection to former Red Sox slugger David Ortiz.

The suspects were indicted on Friday. Ortiz was shot in the back while spending time at a bar with a friend in Santo Domingo last weekend.

A tenth suspect, who goes by the nickname "The Bone," is expected to make a court appearance on Saturday. He turned himself in on Friday.

The chief prosecutor in the case vowed to seek 40 years in prison for the alleged gunman.

According to WBZ-TV, the alleged gunman Rolfy Ferreyra Cruz said that Ortiz was not the intended target during the attack. However, prosecutors disagree, saying that Ortiz was the person meant to be killed.

However, authorities said the alleged hit men were paid about $7,800 to murder Ortiz.

Ortiz is currently recovering at Massachusetts General Hospital.
