BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The family of a man who died after getting stuck in an elevator is suing his condo's management and the elevator company for damages. Boston Opera Company co-founder Randall Kulunis died on May 28, 2020.

Lawyers for the man's daughter say a broken-down elevator in his building delayed his trip to the hospital during a medical emergency. The lawsuit says Kulunis dialed 911 on May 27 — paramedics arrived at the man's second-floor condo at 553 Cambridge Street in Allston and put the 65-year-old on a gurney, but the elevator got stuck on the way down.

The suit claims the group was trapped in the elevator for about half an hour, and had to be freed from the elevator by the Boston Fire Department. The family says that half-hour was fatal, and despite being rushed to St. Elizabeth's Medical Center after getting out of the elevator, Kulunis died the next day.

The plaintiffs are asking for $3 million in damages from the defendants, R Brown Partners (who manage the building) and New England-based Stanley Elevator, which is in charge of the building's elevator.

WBZ NewsRadio has reached out to the condo management company and Stanley Elevator for comment.
