BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Confetti and a ribbon cutting marked the official opening of The Hub on Causeway, a new development near North End Station in Boston that brings restaurants, office, retail, and residential space, and expands TD Garden.
The development is the project of Delaware North and Boston Properties, and features new attractions such as Guy Fieri's Tequila Cocina, an ArcLight Cinema movie theater, and a 1,500 person concert venue.
Delaware North CEO Charlie Jacobs said the area used to be very different.
"We had an overhead rail over here on Causeway and frankly, the TD Garden was in the shadows of an overhead T and an elevated highway," Jacobs said.
Mayor Marty Walsh said this is one of the most exciting developments in the city right now.
"We're seeing more housing, more office, more retail, more hotel, a new grocery store," Walsh said. "All of these were pushed by activism."
Walsh believes The Hub completes the community.
"This is attracting new employers, it created hundreds of construction jobs and permanent jobs for our construction brothers and sisters in the trades," Walsh said. "It connects people to neighborhoods."
