Milton Considers Future For Old Firehouse

MILTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Milton town officials are revisiting three proposals on how to utilize the town’s soon-to-be-vacated fire station.

Once firefighters move into a new firehouse, their old facilities at 525 Adams St. will be empty, freeing up space for a number of potential uses.

One idea is to use the property to house the town’s contracted ambulance provider.

“I’d rather the ambulance there, just for safety,” one Milton resident said.

Other proposals reach wider, such as turning the space into a mixed-use building for commercial and retail options.

Some residents said they would prefer the fire station to remain where it’s at.

“As of right now it’s needed for emergency responders,” another Milton resident said. “For a historical building, I would keep it.”

Select Board member Pete Obersheimer said the board still has time to consider the choices.

“You don’t have to award any proposal, that is another option,” Obersheimer said. “You have to evaluate them, you have to rank them, you don’t necessarily have to award them.”

The subject is scheduled to be addressed at a meeting next week.
