NEWTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Newton resident is missing—after slithering away from his owner’s backyard Tuesday afternoon.

A six-to-eight foot long, brown and yellow Burmese python named Lightning is on the loose after lounging by the pool with an 8-year-old boy.

The boy’s father, and snake’s owner, Jack Galvin, says Lightning disappeared from their Jewett Street home that afternoon. He believes the snake got out from under a fence.

Galvin has alerted his neighbors of the missing pet and the search has been on for the past two days.
