BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Riders on Joe Leeman's bus tours learn about the grittier side of Boston as he drives them around the city's streets.

"The way I describe my tours is like 60 percent crime, 40 percent history," Leeman told WBZ NewsRadio Thursday.

Leeman, a 62-year-old retired Boston Police detective, owns and operates Boston Detective Tours, a true crime bus tour that highlights some of the crime scene landmarks and criminal underworld skullduggery throughout Boston's history.

"The Brinks Robbery, the Boston Strangler, the Irish Gang Wars. My favorite one is the Sacco and Vanzetti case over in Charlestown," said Leeman.

As part of the tour, Leeman also talks about some of the cases where he was assigned lead detective.

"I talk about a homicide, I talk about a couple bank robbers I got, I talk about a kidnapping, the Rockefeller case," described Leeman. "It’s interesting, people seem to like it."

Boston Detective Tours runs out of the Boston Convention Exhibition Center in the Seaport on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays with three scheduled tours a day.

"I can't slow down," Leeman laughed.
