AMHERST, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The University of Massachusetts Amherst Minuteman Marching Band was selected to perform in the 2024 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

The announcement was made Saturday during halftime of the football game between UMass and the University of Toledo. The band previously appeared in the 2013 parade.

At Saturday's game, Macy's presented band director Tim Anderson and UMass Amherst Chancellor Javier Reyes with a $10,000 check to help the band kick off fundraising efforts ahead of their appearance next year.

"The Minuteman Marching Band is honored to be invited back to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade," Anderson said. "We last performed in this event in 2013, and it was a true highlight for everyone in our organization. We can’t wait to share what our university and state are all about with a worldwide audience come Thanksgiving Day 2024!"

The Minuteman band was one of ten bands selected to march in the 2024 parade from a pool of over 100 applicants.
