BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Certified Nurse Assistant from Waltham, Mass., was sentenced for underreporting his income to the Internal Revenue Service, which was announced by the U.S. Attorney's Office on Tuesday.

U.S. District Court Judge Indira Talwani sentenced Patrick Kityo to two months in prison and one year of supervised release. He also has to pay $306,603 in restitution to the IRS, according to a press release.

Kityo owned and ran a home healthcare company called Every Step Home Care Inc. In 2016 and 2017, Kityo did not report all of Every Step's gross receipts, which led his tax preparer to underreport his gross receipts by almost $2 million and allowed Kityo to avoid paying over $300,000 in personal income taxes.

In August 2023, Kityo pleaded guilty to helping prepare a false tax return.

Assistant U.S. Attorney James R. Drabick of the Securities, Financial & Cyber Fraud Unit prosecuted the case.
