Weymouth Elders Having Fun With AI

WEYMOUTH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A group of seniors on the South Shore is having a blast using advanced technology to help promote an upcoming event.

The experience started unexpectedly when Karen Johnston, Weymouth's Director of Elder Services, was reviewing pictures of some of the residents at the town's senior center. "And I threw them into Chat-GPT, and I said, 'make these people into caricatures,'" Johnston said. "Then we put it up on Facebook, and everyone loved it!"

The caricatures were such a big hit on social media and at the center that the residents wanted to use that concept to promote their Spirit of Boston cruise event. "So we took the staff, and I put them first in Gilligan's Island," said Dianne Fidrocki, Elder Services Activity Coordinator. "Then I went and asked Chat-GPT to use the pictures in Love Boat."

Elder Service's Program Assistant Neil Murray said the posters promoting the cruise have become a sought-after collector's item, with beaming residents asking for their own poster once the promotion is over.

"That makes me happy. I'm glad they smile because that's what it's all about," Neil said.
