QUINCY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The area that used to house Quincy's Beachcomber is coming back, but this time as a park.

What was once a venue to see local bands and legendary musicians, such as the Drop Kick Murphys, is taking a more wholesome turn.

The closed venue and bar across from Wollaston Beach is now becoming a new public park. Beachcomber Park along Quincy Shore Drive will be home to more than 2,000 new native plants and have a stone dust path through the park.

Sarah, of Quincy, walks along Quincy Shore Drive every day and said she has already seen people starting to use the new space.

"It'll offer that sort of greenspace that rests apart from the city," she told WBZ"s Jim MacKay. "I think it's great that it's really accessible by public transportation too."

Monuments paying tribute to the area's history will be installed in the fall.
