BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — One of the last remaining working farms in Boston is getting a makeover.
Allandale Farm in Jamaica Plain is tearing down its decades old farm stand to make way for a brand new farm store. The farm has been around since the 18th century and the current building is starting to crumble.
The new building will be styled after an old New England barn with greenhouses, keeping up with the history and heritage behind the farm.
“We’re pretty sure there’s a demand for it, mostly because people tell us there is,” General Manager of Allandale Farm Helen Glotzer told WBZ NewsRadio's Chaiel Schaffel.
Glotzer said she wants the farm to stay open year round.

"It's a lot to open up and close down every year," she said.
A big part of the renovation is to make the building a year-round structure, as opposed to the current unheated shop.
“I would hope that we can complete it within a years’ time, from the moment that we get that sort of final approval… to the moment that it’s done,” said Glotzer.
Construction could start as soon as this summer.
