WESTBOROUGH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — They grow up so fast... Amazon's robots that is.
Robot enthusiasts gathered to watch robots graduate and go on their merry way to their final homes in Amazon fulfillment centers around the world.
It turns out WBZ's Matt Shearer didn't need to dress like a robot to get in...
The robots are built in a facility in Massachusetts and then sent out to every Amazon fulfillment center worldwide. One robot called Sparrow is able to identify and lift specific products before packaging them in the most efficient way.
At the Global Innovation Media Event, robot lovers could watch demonstrations of Amazon's newest robotic technology and future technology.
"I like that I'm building sci-fi and getting paid to do it," said robot enthusiast Mikell Taylor. Her love for robots runs deep, "I took a robot to my senior prom, we taught it to dance with us," she said recounting one of the best dates she had in high school.
Matt tried to ride one sturdy-looking robot but was advised against it and told there were measures in place to prevent "robot surfing."
