BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A beer garden and performance space is set to come to Boston Common this spring, thanks to a unique partnership between a local college and a New England brewery.

Emerson College is partnering with Trillium Brewing to open Trillium Garden, a beer garden and live music performance space.

"Now what we want to do is make this area a destination point," Peggy Ings, Emerson College's vice president of government of community relations, told WBZ's James Rojas.

The 420-seat beer garden will open on the empty space at the corner of Boylston and Tremont Street on Boston Common.

Many Emerson College students are looking forward to the new space opening just in time for the summer season.

"I love the idea to liven up the space and I love the ideas of the performances and I am just so excited for what's to come," one Emerson student said.

"It's pretty cool, it's really close to campus so it should be good," another student said.

Some nearby residents are less excited about the new beer garden coming into their neighborhood.

"Well my [initial] response is that I don't think it's a particularly good use of the space," one resident said.

The space is set to open in May.
