Boat Burst Into Flames In Aucoot Cove, Boaters Escaped Safely

MATTAPOISETT, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) — A boat is left charred after bursting into flames in Mattapoisett over the weekend.

Boaters were out enjoying the Fourth of July weekend on Aucoot Cove when they saw a large cloud of smoke coming from a boat on fire.

The people on board were able to safely escape, Mattapoisett Fire Rescue said.

Marine 1 was dispatched to the scene and helped put out the fire. One woman on Facebook said she saw the boat on fire while attending a party and was glad to see the number of neighbors racing over to help.

The boat is a total loss, according to Mattapoisett Fire Rescue.

Mattapoisett Harbormaster, Marion Fire / EMS, Marion Harbormaster Department, New Bedford Police Department (Massachusetts), and the United States Coast Guard were at the scene.
