BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Hundreds of new electric vehicle charging stations could be installed in Boston free of charge thanks to a new plan from the city.
The city has selected two private companies to install up to 250 charging locations over the next two years.
It's part of a greater plan to expand charging access and make the city more EV-friendly.
"I think it's a great idea if they are true to their word," one Boston man told WBZ NewsRadio's James Rojas.

The plan is not a done deal yet, the City Council also needs to approve the contracts with the selected companies.
"The idea is positive it's more of like how well it works will be how effective the rollout is," another woman said.
The city's long-term goal is to make every household within a 10-minute walk of a public EV charging station or EV car share.
Meanwhile, Cambridge residents without driveway access can charge their EVs across the sidewalk as a part of an Electric Vehicle Charging Pilot Program that launched over the summer.
