BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A local transgender advocate is on a mission to make Boston college campuses safer for transgender students.
Northeastern University Assistant Clinical Professor AC Goldberg (he/him) has created an extension any university can integrate with online housing surveys that asks one simple question, "Are you comfortable living with a transgender person?"
Goldberg is the founder of The CREDIT Institute, a non-profit that works to advance equity and understand minorities' experiences through education and awareness.
Goldberg told WBZ NewsRadio's James Rojas that he created The Safe Trans Housing Extension to make on-campus housing safer for transgender students.
"Within that survey, what happens is a little pop-up windows comes [up] before you can advance to the next page," Goldberg said. "And the pop-up window just asks, 'Are you comfortable living with a transgender person?'"
The housing survey extension is aimed at reducing harassment on college campuses by better partnering roommates.
Goldberg he believes Boston is the perfect place to launch the extension.
"If we got multiple universities to implement this what we would see would be an overall reduction in violence and attrition in transgender students," said Goldberg.
The tool helps ensure new roommates of all genders are safe.
