BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston's first baby of 2023 was born seven minutes into the new year at Brigham and Woman's Hospital.
At 12:07 A.M. baby boy Iraklis was born weighing 9 pounds, 10 ounces. Iraklis was born to parents Paula and Vasilos Kitas.
2023 marks the second year in a row that the first Boston baby of the new year was born at Brigham and Women's Hospital. The hospital is the largest birthing center in Massachusetts, according to Brigham and Women's Hospital.
Area healthcare facilities such as Massachusetts General Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston Medical Center, Tufts Medical Center, and St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center communicate with each other at the start of the new year to determine which hospital welcomes the first baby in Boston each year.
Hospital staffers Dr. Lisa Lampert, registered nurse Lisa-Jo Marsiglua-Viall, and registered nurse Rebecca Ramsey helped to bring baby Iraklis into the world.
