BROCKTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The City of Brockton unveiled a memorial honoring the construction worker killed in the Government Center garage collapse on the one-year anniversary of the tragedy.
The family of Peter Monsini of Brockton unveiled the bench honoring him at D.W. Fields Park on Sunday afternoon. The bench faces a pond and reads, "In memory of Peter Monsini, Brockton Pete."
Peter's 18-year-old son unveiled the bench at the ceremony and said the community knew his dad as Brockton Pete.
"He was a hard worker and he would give the shirt off his back and not expect anything in return," Alicia Anacleto, Peter's girlfriend, said. "And he was an awesome dad."
Anacleto told WBZ's Suzanne Sausville she wants the bench to be a place for people to sit, reflect, and remember their loved ones.

"Everyone if they're having troubles or whatever they can come and sit and whether it's in Peter's loving memory or they can just sit and talk and pray," she said.
Peter and Anthony would have picnics at the park and feed the ducks when he was younger.
"We'd ride bikes here, made memories here," Anthony said.
