BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — One Dorchester man says he's cracked the code to staying dry.

WBZ's Matt Shearer set out on an umbrella mission and ended up with six.

Laurence Lau, The Microsoft Excel World Champion, has a so-called "life hack" to never pay for umbrellas. He walks into bars and restaurants claiming he left his umbrella behind and wants to take a look in the lost and found.

"I try to go for the nicer looking ones like golf umbrellas because why not," Lau said.

Lau and Shearer walked along the Boston Marathon route stopping in six bars and restaurants.

"People that loose these they're not going to come back for them, it's been two days," he said.

Shearer said the technique worked like a charm, but ended up returning the nice ones and donating the rest.
