FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Foxborough Fire Department has become the first in Massachusetts to receive a rubber stamp of accreditation.
The Center for Public Safety Excellence added Foxborough to the list of 343 accredited agencies around the world.
"We are the first municipal fire department in Massachusetts to achieve this accreditation," Assistant Fire Chief Tom Buckley told WBZ NewsRadio's Chaiel Schaffel.
The process took several years of reviewing the department's fire and emergency services. They had to answer around 250 questions about day-to-day operations. Then finally, a team of outside fire chiefs came to inspect the department.

"Fire Chiefs from across the country flew in, spent a week here, and validated everything that we wrote," said Buckley.
The accreditation isn't just good news for the department, but for the whole community. The approval could keep home insurance rates down in Foxborough for years to come. Accreditation is valid for five years.
"When we show up [people know] that the firefighters from Foxborough are going to get the job done," said Buckley. "I think at the end it's one of those things that's really good for the community just to see how well fire departments are operating."
