SAGAMORE BEACH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Drivers heading for Cape Cod were surprised with free CarCuterie boards on Thursday to help ease their commute.

WBZ's Jim MacKay stopped by the Cape Cod Canal Visitor Center and got himself a meat and cheese spread.

Stop & Shop provided travelers who braved the Sagamore Bridge to head to Cape Cod for the holiday weekend with free CarCuterie boards.

"[It] helps to stave off some hunger while they're sitting in rich traffic," an event worker told WBZ's Jim MacKay.

Stop & Shop workers handed out the boards to those who made a pit stop at the Cape Cod Canal Region Visitor Center to keep hungry travelers fed during one of the busiest travel weekends of the year.

More than 917,000 Massachusetts residents are set to travel for Memorial Day weekend, according to AAA Northeast.
