FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — One man is dreaming of a world where fruit trees are lining the front yards of Framingham. He's making his dream come true one tree at a time.

WBZ's Emma Friedman helped plant a pear tree and got to keep a souvenir rock.

Spencer, a software developer from Framingham, is planting fruit trees in his neighbors' yards free of charge. He wants to see more people have access to fresh fruit and envisions a time when Framingham residents can go for a walk and pull an apple off their neighbor's tree as they go.

Planting trees around the neighborhood has always been a goal of his.

"Even as a child I've always wanted to do this," Spencer told WBZ's Emma Friedman.

He started hanging up flyers a few months ago around his neighborhood to see if any of his neighbors would be interested in letting him plant a tree on their front lawn. So far he has planted around six trees, but the season to plant has just begun.

"If you have one person planting one fruit tree where everyone has access to it there is a chance all the fruit will be eaten if enough people take it but if you have like five or six trees on a street it doesn't even matter how many people take your always going to have some available," Spencer said.

Neighbors can choose from peach, cherry, apple, and plum trees depending on what is available at the plant nurseries.
