WAYLAND, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Curlers from across the country gathered in Wayland to compete in this year's Junior National Curling Championships.
Broomstones Curling Club is hosting the six-day competition that takes place from April 3 to April 8. The country's top eight U21 women's and men's teams are competing.
Dean Gemmel, CEO of Curling U.S.A., told WBZ's Madison Rogers he thinks the odds of future Olympians competing in the competition are high.
"It's exciting to see the talent, I think we're seeing more young players devote themselves to curling," Gemmel said.
While the competition is fierce, the teenage competitors were excited to meet fellow curlers from across the U.S.

"Obviously a lot of them live in the Midwest so they're not as close to us, but we'll have them on Instagram or Snapchat and we'll be able to kind of stay in contact with them," Julia Pekowitz, a student at Wellesley High School, told WBZ's Madison Rogers.
"I don't think you'll find many places more welcoming than a curling club," Gemmel said.
This year's winner will be representing the U.S. at the World Junior Curling Championships next April.
