BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — While the snow ices over, things are looking good at the gas pump.
The price of gas in Massachusetts has continued to drop since it peaked in September when prices were up more than 60 cents.
On Monday, the average price of gas in Massachusetts went down to $3.17, which is three cents lower than last week. The price is 17 cents lower than a month ago and 16 cents lower than it was a year ago.
“With the holiday season behind us, gas prices seem to be in the winter doldrums,” said Mark Schieldrop, Senior Spokesperson for AAA Northeast. “Barring an unexpected shock to the global oil market, prices could keep falling, especially if winter weather conditions take a bite out of demand. When there’s snow and rain in the forecast, many drivers stay home.”

In Rhode Island, the average price of gas was $3.06 on Monday. In Connecticut, the average price of gas was $3.18. In New Hampshire, the average price was $3.08, in Maine it was $3.19, and in Vermont it averaged at $3.24.
The Energy Information Administration reported a massive build in gasoline inventories last week, prompting lower prices and amply supply in the region. The report stated the gasoline inventories was the largest since December 2021.
On Monday, the national average price of gas was $3.07.
