LYNN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A star athlete in Lynn has been receiving offers to play basketball at some top colleges and she hasn't even graduated eighth grade.
Bella Owumi, an eighth grader at St. Mary's Lynn, is a star player on girls varsity basketball team. She has been getting offers to play at colleges four years from now when she graduates high school.
"My mom was recording it and I was like mom you don't really record when I have college calls, but she was there and she was really proud of me and my dad cried," she said. "He's really proud of me."
Owumi has been playing on St. Mary's varsity team since she was 12-years-old.

"I've been playing since kindergarten, I started playing at the YMCA," said Bella Owumi.
"In seventh grade, her first year starting, our first five games she played as a 12-year-old. She wasn't a teenager until game six," Jeff Newhall, team coach and athletic director, told WBZ's Shari Small.
She received her first offer from the University of Rhode Island last year when she was in seventh grade. Since then, she has gotten offers from Boston College and University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League school.
