BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A salmonella case puts Massachusetts on the map of states affected by a deadly salmonella outbreak linked to cantaloupe.
On Friday, the CDC reported that 38 states have been affected and three of the cases turned deadly. Massachusetts had one case with another in Rhode Island. The rest of New England had no reported cases as of Friday.
"Do not eat pre-cut cantaloupes if you don’t know whether Malichita or Rudy brand cantaloupes were used," the CDC said.

Pre-cut and whole cantaloupes with sticker labels “Malichita” or “Rudy,” with the number “4050”, and “Product of Mexico/produit du Mexique” have been recalled.
Cantaloupe chunks, melon mixes, and fruit mixes from Kroger, Sprouts Farmers Market, and Trader Joe’s are included in the recall. For a full list of recalled items click here.
If you don't know where it's from, the FDA recommends throwing it away to stay safe.
