MARBLEHEAD, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) — A vintage lamp in the shape of an artichoke is up for auction... and people are willing to pay thousands for it.
Marblehead's Abbot Public Library has put a Poul Henningsen Artichoke Pendant Lamp up for auction on Municibid, a government auction website. The lamp's starting bid is at $3,000.
On Poul Henningsen's official website, the lamp goes from $15,000 to $25,000. They also sell the PH Artichoke made of glass which costs more than $46,000.
Abbot Public Library said it is going separate ways with the lamp since the library is currently under renovation. The library purchased the light fixture around 1989.

The white Artichoke Pendant Lamp being auctioned was designed in 1958 and was originally for the Langelinie restaurant in Copenhagen.
"The original design was intended to conceal the light bulb and produce a soft, glare-free light that diffuses evenly into the space it inhabits. Due to its unique shape, it is frequently used in smaller spaces that may be overwhelmed by traditional chandeliers," the auction website, Municibid, wrote.
The lamp went up for auction on Monday, July 17, and will end on Monday, August 14.
