BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Massachusetts' Registry of Motor Vehicles announced on Wednesday that doors are open on Saturdays starting this month for select services as well as more locations for road tests.
In Fall River and Leominster, customers can now make appointments on Saturdays. Starting on September 16, the Pittsfield Customer Service Center will also offer Saturday hours.
Saturday appointments are only available for those in need of learner's permits, driver's licenses, and ID transactions.
The RMV is adding the weekend hours and additional road test locations after the Work and Family Mobility Act went into effect in July, allowing all residents to apply for a license regardless of immigration status. The RMV said the expanded services will help to accommodate both new and existing customers as thousands of new customers could be heading for the RMV.
Additional road test locations now offering Class D road tests by appointment are:
- AAA North Andover, 75 Turnpike Street (Route 114), North Andover, MA 01845
- AAA Rockland, 900 Hingham Street, Rockland, MA 02370
- AAA Somerset, 869 G.A.R. Highway, Somerset, MA 02726
- DCR Simoni Skating Rink, 155 Gore Street, Cambridge, MA 02141
