BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The MBTA announced the Green Line trains new look on Monday after getting riders input.

More than 16,300 T riders responded to the MBTA's survey to help pick paint designs for the new Green Line Type 10 supercars.

The winning design received 9,566 votes. There were three options to choose from.

“Ensuring that we engage with riders and incorporate their feedback is critical in everything we do. I thank our riders for taking the time to engage with us on the exterior design of the new Type 10 Green Line supercars,” MBTA General Manager Phillip Eng said in a statement. “We value the time that it takes to vote, and the fact that we heard directly from thousands of riders demonstrates the importance of these new Green Line cars to the public."

The new Green Line supercars will be 40 feet longer than the current Green Line trains and will have wider doors, the latest crash-safety technology, and a state-of-the-art communication system.

MBTA officials said safety and reliability was their main priority when designing the new supercars. The supercars will be in the design phase for the next few years before pilot vehicles will be introduced, but officials say there could be a mock-up available for riders to see next year.
