BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Safety is on the minds of MBTA officials and riders on Monday.

The MBTA is set to submit a new worker safety plan to federal regulators by Monday's deadline after the last one was rejected. The FTA sent back the proposal saying the plan was not fixing current worker safety problems fast enough in a letter to MBTA General Manager Phillip Eng.

While the Federal Transit Administration is concerned about worker safety, some T riders are also concerned about their own safety both on the tracks and the platform.

"We're just struggling with a crumbling infrastructure, not so much the T but I don't know if you saw what happened at Harvard Square, so not safety on the T necessarily but just like the infrastructure in the stations is a little worrying sometimes," one woman told WBZ's James Rojas.

In May, several Amtrak workers were inquired after two maintenance vehicles collided near the MBTA Readville Commuter Rail Station.

"Hopefully they fix the train as well because every day, every week, there's something with the train," one T rider said.
