MIDDLEBORO, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Some Middleborough parents have been getting billed for their children's destructive behavior at school to try and put a stop to the chaos.

Some students at Nichols Middle School in Middleborough have been doing so much damage to the school that parents are receiving invoices to pay for the damages caused by their children.

"The school district as a whole has failed the students of Nichols Middle School," said Sarah Zigouras, a Nichols Middle School parent. "That place is seen as just a lost cause honestly."

Students have been caught ripping off ceiling tiles, throwing food, breaking cafeteria seating, and smashing bathroom plumbing.

"Students' level of what is acceptable behavior is not something I think any person in this room or listening would allow to happen in their homes," said Acting Principal Heather Tucker.

School leaders said the cost of damages shouldn't be put on the taxpayers.

"How many ceiling tiles are being taken off today and defecated on?" said one parent.

More focused learning time and extra recess have been discussed as the school works to find a solution to stop the destructive behavior.

As the school year comes to a close, the school is drawing up plans to try and fix things when school is back in session this fall.
