NEEDHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Needham Police are once again warning residents after some mail drop off boxes were targeted in a so called "phishing scam."
The thieves used keys to open the mailboxes and steal mail that had been dropped off, police said.
Stand-alone mailboxes in busier neighborhoods have been targeted. This includes mailboxes on Maple Street on Brookline Street.
"We are pleading with you to stop using these mail slots. The suspects continue to come back because of the quantity of mail they find," said Needham Police.

Police are asking residents to bring mail directly to the post office instead of using any of the 25 drop off boxes throughout Needham.
"We are asking you to stop using them immediately. If you used them, you do not have to call us. Just monitor your bank statements for the next few months," said police.
Over the summer, Needham Police had also issued a warning after several thieves were spotted trying to break into USPS mailboxes.
