NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Fire crews had to "overcome an obstruction" when someone parked in front of a fire hydrant while a New Bedford building was covered in flames on Saturday.

New Bedford Fire Department responded to a building on fire on 23 Beetle Street at around 5:25 p.m. on Saturday. When crews arrived at the scene and went to the closest hydrant they discovered someone had parked illegally directly in front of it blocking the crew's path.

Firefighters "overcame the obstruction" by putting the hose through the car's windows and connecting it to the hydrant on the other side.

Seven residents, including three children, were displaced by the fire. No one was injured in the fire, officials said.

The New Bedford Police Department determined a cooking incident started the fire.
