BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Looking for a Valentine's Day date in Massachusetts? It could be easier to find than you think.

A new study by BetMassachusetts has named Massachusetts the loneliest state in the country. WBZ's Shari Small spoke with some Massachusetts residents who disagreed with the study's findings.

"No, I feel like Massachusetts is a good place to make new friends," one Massachusetts man said.

The study examined which states searched for popular dating apps like Tinder, Bumble, and Hinge on Valentine's Day for the past three years.

"I think that's pretty comical that they would say that it's pretty lonely," Bri of Massachusetts said.

Massachusetts was ranked as the loneliest state, followed by Oregon, Connecticut, Washington, and California. Massachusetts and Connecticut were the only New England states listed in the top ten loneliest states, the study found.

"I don't know, I guess I could maybe see it because there's so many people maybe they're just isolating," said Bri.

Researchers also found that over the last five years, there has been a 6% increase in single-person residences.
