MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Manchester-by-the-Sea golf instructor is on a mission to get more women on the golf course.

"I think women in general are having a moment," Amanda Davis, retail manager and assistant professional at Essex County Club, told WBZ NewsRadio's Brooke McCarthy.

Davis was chosen to be one of 15 women for the 2024/2025 PGA LEAD class. The program aims to diversify the sport and unite the golf world regardless of gender.

"There's been a real push to have more diversity at a national and section level," she said.

“This program continues to help bring talented PGA of America Golf Professionals to the forefront of the golf industry, which will help position the PGA of America’s overall mission of growing the game for years to come," John Lindert, PGA of America President, said on the PGA of America website.

Davis started playing golf when she was a young Girl Scout looking to earn a new badge and has been on the green ever since.

She said it's never too late to learn and having a good group of friends makes all the difference.

"It might feel intimidating to start but never feel like you're not good enough to take a golf lesson," Davis said.

She was the only golf instructor from Massachusetts chosen for the program.
